Retail Deal Makers was founded in September 2000 by John Christon, Hannah Douglas, and Chris Green. Formed in response to an apparent need in the market for a networking organization tailored specifically to retail brokers, the initial goal was to involve as many different companies as possible and to provide a platform for those who were new to the business.

RDM has experienced steady growth throughout its history. The first monthly breakfast meetings at Jen's Place were attended by six to eight people from as many companies. In 2003 fifty people helped celebrate the third anniversary breakfast at the Park Cities Club, an event that featured guest speaker Bob Rissing from Albertsons. In January 2005 the kickoff happy hour at Jaspers boasted attendance of nearly seventy people. In September of the same year, the fifth anniversary party, Retail Deal Makers' biggest event in its five-year history, brought almost 200 people to the first Texas Hold'em and Casino night at Gilley's Dallas. Today that event is attended by over 300 people.

RDM continues to help new brokers in the business while providing value to those with more experience. The networking list has grown considerably, and the networking breakfasts have consistent attendance of twenty to thirty people.

RDM owes its success to many people over the years and would like to express its appreciation to everyone who has attended events or supported the organization in any way.
